Belonging
“Belonging” Is an installation for Fremont Park in Glendale, Los Angeles, California. The project features tiled artworks on 22 columns, integrated throughout the park. The artworks were placed on the front and back of each column. A total of 1688 glazed porcelain tiles were created for the installation.
“Belonging” features flowers native to the region arranged in compositions that play with scale, pattern, symmetry, and repetition. The patterned backgrounds reference textiles or quilting and playfully engage with the tile format. Larger flowers that appear to float on top transform the playgrounds, courts, and community spaces of the park into gardens. The project speaks to place, community, diversity, and belonging.
