Public Art > New Light

"New Light" is a site specific painting installation commissioned by NYC Health and Hospitals and the Laurie M Tisch Illumination Fund, with support from Residency Unlimited.

The work is located on the second floor, pediatric unit of the NYCHH Gotham Health Vanderbilt Health Center, located in Staten Island, New York.

After meeting with the hospital community, I created a work that was inspired by a sunrise and quilting- symbols of hope, family, and community. I looked at textiles from around the world, specifically focusing on objects and patterns from the cultures of people who visit and work at this health center.

Part of this mural faces the a play area. After visiting the site, I asked to create something for this additional wall, so the children would have something to look at while they are waiting to see the doctor.
